Cork is the outer bark of the cork oak, a tree that grows only in the western Mediterranean. It is stripped from the living tree by hand, and the tree grows a new layer, ready to harvest again after nine years or more. No cork oak is cut down to harvest it. Our cork comes from Portugal and is FSC certified.
Natural rubber comes from the latex of the rubber tree. A thin strip of bark is shaved from the trunk and the latex runs out into a cup; done properly, tapping doesn't kill the tree, and the bark grows back. It is what gives our mats their weight and cushion. Our natural rubber is FSC certified.
